Survivor Strength sessions
Weekly Trauma-Informed Fitness for Survivors of Sexual Violence
Survivor Strength is a weekly, trauma-informed training session for survivors of sexual violence, created in partnership with Survivor Space (previously OSARCC) and supported by local business Abstract Leap.
Launched in 2024 as a 10-week pilot programme, Survivor Strength offered a closed, supportive space for self-identifying women and non-binary people recorded female at birth to rebuild strength and confidence through physical activity. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, it is now a regular part of our weekly timetable at The Project PT.
Led by female, trauma-informed coaches, these sessions centre the needs of survivors. Participants are given the choice between strength training or boxing, and the gym is closed to the public during the session to ensure complete privacy, comfort, and a calm environment. The goal is to create a space where survivors can feel safe to move, reconnect with their bodies, and build autonomy on their own terms.
Physical activity has been shown to improve trauma symptoms, support emotional regulation, and promote mental wellbeing. For those waiting for therapeutic support — such as counselling through Survivor Space — this programme offers a powerful complementary pathway for recovery and self-care.
These sessions are:
Free to access for those referred through Survivor Space
Led by qualified, trauma-informed female coaches
Tailored to each individual, with flexibility to choose your pace and preferred type of movement
A closed environment, meaning the gym is only open to participants during the session
Built around support, safety, and empowerment
Survivor Space is Oxfordshire’s only non-statutory, accredited specialist service for survivors of sexual violence, and we are proud to be delivering this programme alongside their expert team.
We look forward to continuing this work throughout 2025 and beyond, supporting more survivors through movement, strength, and community.
